My story
From commission salon to my own business
I didn't take the usual path. Everything I know about running a salon, I learned by doing it, one step at a time.
-
At 16
Starting at the front desk
I left high school at 16 and started working at a salon as a receptionist and assistant. I booked appointments, looked after clients and watched how a busy salon really runs.
-
Learning
Lash training
While I was still working reception and assisting, I took my lash training. Lashing clicked for me right away, and I knew this was what I wanted to do.
-
About a year
Lashing on commission
I started doing lashes at the salon on commission. For about a year I built my skills, worked on my speed and isolation, and learned what keeps clients coming back.
-
The leap
Going out on my own
Having my own business had always been my dream, so I left the salon and started from scratch with barely any clients.
-
3 months
Fully booked
Within three months I was fully booked, all organically. Clients came from word of mouth and my own content, and they kept coming back.
-
7 months later
The House of Cadence
About seven months after that, I opened my own salon in St. Albert. Now I'm training lash artists of my own and building something bigger than my own appointment book.
